I tell you what’s really ridiculous - going to a bookshop and there’s all these books about yourself. In a way it feels like you’re already dead. So you’ve got a kind of license to start again.

How do you play any of Kid A live? How do you even write an album like Kid A? And how on earth does a distorted, confused and recycled Thom Yorke sing along with a real Thom Yorke, playing a keyboard that gets recycled and cut up too, until the band can leave the stage while their music goes on, slowly eating itself?

We’re finalizing dates now, we’ll be on the road from the end of February to November and we’ll be playing in both the UK and US, the usual ports of call.

It was nice not to do any of [the press things/live shows], but after a while, we thought, ‘Hold on, it might be nice to do something.’ And now that we’ve figured out how to play [songs from The King of Limbs] live that creates an energy that we want to pursue. You want to get it out there.

Radiohead: 'We sympathise with Wall Street protestors'

Radiohead have said they sympathise with protestors who stormed Wall Street last week.

The band, who were forced to deny reports they were planning to play a gig in support of the protests last Friday (September 30), told NME that the rumour “got out of control”.

However, bassist Colin Greenwood said that they certainly “understand” the protestors’ anger at the financial system.

He commented:

Are we sympathetic to the protestors’ cause? Of course. I understand people feeling frustrated with Wall Street, anyone would be, especially as those institutions were bailed out by taxpayers’ money. I don’t think that’s a controversial thing to say.

Greenwood also hinted that the Oxford group will be playing more live shows in support of their latest album ‘The King Of Limbs’, remarking that they had been having a “brilliant time” on their recent short US tour. The jaunt saw the band play two nights at New York’s Roseland Ballroom and appear on TV show The Colbert Report.

He added: “We’ve not had much of a chance to play ‘The King Of Limbs’ live. There was the Glastonbury performance, but with our own shows we can have the full production. We’re getting together this week to talk about our plans for the rest of the year. We’re having a brilliant time, so obviously we want to keep it going.”

Greenwood also spoke about howRadiohead have been playing with a second drummer, Clive Deamer, who has played with the likes of Portishead and Robert Plant.

“It’s every bass player’s fantasy, being surrounded by all this amazing rhythm stuff. An ongoing arrangement? Yes, it’s working out great. Obviously Clive steps aside when we play the older stuff. But it’s been a lot of fun – we’ve known Clive since about 1995,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Radiohead are due to release their new remix album ‘TKOL 1234567’ – which you can hear in full below – next Monday (October 10).

Frontman Thom Yorke is due to play a DJ set at London’s Corsica Studios on the day after the release (11), alongside the likes of Jamie XX, Caribou, Lone and Illum Sphere, who have all contributed tracks to the LP.

  6. Thom: Did it?
  7. Stephen Colbert: Yeah, you guys got any Grammys?
  8. Thom: I think we have, haven't we?
  9. Ed: Yep.
  10. Stephen Colbert: How many you got?
  11. Colin: Best packaging.
  12. Stephen Colbert: Best packaging? That's one of the top ones right there.

  3. Phil: You are.
  4. Stephen Colbert: You're forty-two. Grow up, guys. And I mean that lovingly.

  1. SPEC: With such a large young-adult fan base—who will be the future leaders of the world—do you think music will influence these future leaders? And how specifically would you like to see Radiohead’s music influence them?
  2. COLIN GREENWOOD: I don’t think music influences people in a direct-action kind of way, but it does help to shape tastes and perhaps that has a part to play in growing up. If we make people think, then we’ve achieved something.

You don’t realise once you’ve stopped [making music], how hard it is to regain the momentum. You literally get out the habit of doing it but often the only way to stop repeating yourself is to stop doing that thing, walk away from it. Sometimes you have to go away in order to come back.

I look forward to meeting the Radioheads and leveraging their anti-corporate indie cred to raise brand awareness for my sponsors.
